Overview of different membrane keypads

Input systems / HMI

Membrane keypads, capacitive keypads or touchscreen?

With the advent of touchscreens, there was speculation as to whether they would largely replace previous input systems such as membrane keypads or mechanical buttons. This is not the case. Rather, they complement the portfolio of input systems.

Membrane keypads have many advantages over touchscreens. For example, membrane keypads can be operated with gloves without any problems. The haptic properties of the keys, the easy exchangeability and the lower costs compared to touchscreens are further positive aspects. However, one often sees a combination of membrane keypads with displays or touchscreens.

Our input systems

Membrane keypads

Flat input unit with freely selectable arrangement of the keys and free design of the decorative foil. Different technologies and embossing of the keys determine the durability and feel of the operation. The membrane keypad is glued onto the housing. It is also possible to illuminate the keys. Detailed information can be found on the page Membrane keypads.

Capacitive keypads

Capacitive keypads are very resistant and resistant to acid and dirt and are extremely durable. A light touch on the capacitive key elements, which are located behind a completely closed, continuous front, detects and evaluates a surface change. The surface can be glass, plastic, or other non-conductive material. The capacitive keyboard reacts to the touch of a finger through a sensor electrode.

The keyboard can be cleaned with water and also with detergents or disinfectants and ensures hygiene standards. The keypads are illuminated and can be individually designed according to your requests.

Display and touch integration

Consumer electronics and mobile telephony rely almost exclusively on devices with displays or touchscreens. In the meantime, it is no different in industrial electronics.
But, how can housing, electronics, and touch/display be merged? Electronics developers are often left to their own devices here. Does this sound familiar?

The core competence of developers is primarily to create innovative ideas and electronics. But in the end, you also need a “package” in the form of a housing in which electronics and touch displays can be integrated. The huge selection of displays makes things even more complicated.

For this purpose, we have various solutions for display integration in housings. From the simplest version, in which the display is fitted with a seal and fixed behind the cut-out in the housing, to the high-end version, optical bonding, as we know it from smartphones.

We have the right solution for every requirement. Ask us.

HMI panel systems

Our sister company Rose Systemtechnik develops and produces completely customised industrial or panel PC solutions – from one-off production to large-scale production. On request, the HMI panels are prepared for suspension systems or ergonomic height-adjustable support arm systems.
